What does it mean to replace your single glazed glass?

Simply put, dual GLAZE™ DOUBLE GLAZING replaces the old single glazed glass from your home with new double glazed glass.

The current make up of your specific windows & doors, for example the material (aluminium or timber) and level of wear, will determine which specific service you require from the team.

There are a few options to consider;

• Replace the glass only, Replace the glass and opening panels or Replace the glass, panels and frames.
• Or if completing a renovation you could consider changing the type of opening, replace an existing window with a door.
• Your dual GLAZE™ consultant can do it all and will guide you through this process.

Do you have existing Aluminium joinery:

Are the aluminium frames are in good working order = retrofit dual GLAZE™ glass replacement

1. For aluminium replacement, the process is the least complex. The existing joinery is colour matched and new double glazed glass is brought in, along with sash windows and doors. The result is a like for like replacement of the existing look.
2. The team will remove and recycle your existing single glazed window & door panes and replace them with new dual GLAZE™ double glazed windows & Doors. We'll replace rubber seals, aluminium clip beads, window stays and handles.
   1. Window glass replacement
      1. Fixed windows (non opening) require a ‘bead’ and rubber seal replacement along with the glass.

      2. Opening windows (awning, casement, bifold, sliding) require both glass and inner joinery & hardware to be replaced.

   2. Door glass replacement

      1. Fixed door panels (non opening) require a ‘bead’ and rubber seal replacement along with the glass – see image for ‘Fixed Frame Windows’ above.

      2. Opening doors (sliding, bifold, hinged & French) in many instances require both glass, inner joinery and hardware to be replaced – however in some sliding doors a glass and bead solution can be achieved.

Are the aluminium frames compromised, damaged, not up to the added weight of new double glazed glass, or potentially beyond repair = full replacement dual GLAZETM windows & doors

1. Aluminium full replacement is recommended if an existing door or window is beyond repair or cannot accommodate the increased weight of double glazing. Another situation where full replacement will be required is if it is part of a renovation where, for example, you have chosen to remove a window and open up a wall to put in a door.
2. The team will remove and recycle the entire window & door frame and replace them with new aluminium windows & doors, including new aluminium frames.
   1. Frame replacement:
      1. Removal and replacement of existing window & door frames from your home.
      2. Window & Door glass replacement
         1. All windows (fixed and opening - awning, casement, bifold, sliding) require both glass and inner joinery to be replaced
         2. All doors (fixed  and opening - sliding, bifold, hinged & French) require both glass and inner joinery to be replaced

Do you have existing Timber joinery:

Are the timber frames are in good working order = Timber Insert Frame Retrofit, dual GLAZE™ windows & Doors

1. Timber Insert Frame Retrofit, the process requires less remedial work than full replacement. Insert windows keep your existing exterior facing boards and internal timber reveals. This means you don't need remedial work on the exterior cladding and in particular not having to re-plaster and paint internal wall linings. It also means your internal timber liners (reveals) and external decorative facing boards remain in place to maintain your existing timber character look.
2. The team will remove and recycle your existing timber windows and doors and replace them with new aluminium dual GLAZE™ insert frames including new double glazed windows & doors, these discreetly fit inside the existing timber frame.
   1. Removal of existing internal windows & doors from your home. This leaves the outer timber frame in place
   2. Installation of a new aluminium ‘h’ frame into the existing timber frame
   3. Window & Door glass replacement
      1. All windows (fixed and opening - awning, casement, bifold, sliding) require both glass and inner joinery to be replaced
      2. All doors (fixed and opening - sliding, bifold, hinged & French) require both glass and inner joinery to be replaced

   2. Installation of new aluminium joinery - frame and internal windows & doors into the now existing cavity

A note on demolition and installation:

For some work, a builder and subsequent trades may be required to complete the job to a finished standard, for example external weatherproofing, internal plaster & paint. Your dual GLAZE™ consultant can advise of their specific requirements for the work ahead.

A note on building code compliance: the dual GLAZE™ double glazing replacement windows & doors process does not in most instances compromise the building structure of your home. Windows & doors are classed as non structural elements within your home. As long as you are looking at exact replacements, there is no need to file for new council consents and approvals. Your dual GLAZE™ consultant is the best person to speak with on this.
